Productivity timer is based on a simple productivity technique called Pomodoro which was conceived by productivity expert Francesco Cirillo.

To start a session press the play button. A session will be created based on your settings and the intervals will be displayed with icons below the timer.

The icons will change colour and form to give you feedback of the state of the intervals.

When a session is active you can press the pause button to pause the timer or to reset the time of the current interval.
When you try to pause a message will appear warning you that the technique is more effective when intervals are uninterrupted.
You can choose to deactivate the warning by selecting “Pause and don’t show again”. You can reset this warning through the settings panel (see settings section).

During an active session you can press the stop button to discard the session or to skip the current interval.

Settings

In the side panel, which you can expand by clicking on the cogwheel icon on the upper left of the screen, you can adjust several settings of the Productivity timer.

Productivity timer’s default settings are designed to follow Cirillo’s suggestions.

The default settings are:

  • 25 minutes for work intervals
  • 5 minutes for short breaks
  • 30 minutes for the long break at the end of each session.
  • The number of work intervals of each session is set to 3.

Settings explanation

  • Work Interval
set the duration of each work interval in minutes (default 25).
  • Break Interval
set the duration of break that follow work intervals in minutes (default 5).
  • Long Break Interval
set the duration of the long break that follows the last work interval in minutes (default 30).
  • Work intervals per session
set the number of work intervals for each session, called one pomodoro (default 4).
  • Include long break at end of session
Choose whether or not to include a long break at the end of each session.
  • Auto-advance to next interval
Choose whether or not the next interval starts automatically when an interval ends.
  • Auto start next session
Choose whether or not the next session starts automatically when the current session ends.
  • Warn me if I try to pause
The pomodoro technique is most effective when the intervals whether work or break are uninterrupted.
For this reason the default behaviour is to warn you when you try to pause during an active session but you can turn off the warning.
  • Ticking sound
Cirillo suggests, for maximum productivity and focus, that the timer should remain visible and audible during work intervals.
For this reason you can choose whether or not to hear a ticking sound with each passing second.
  • Ticking sound during breaks
Choose whether or not to hear a ticking sound during breaks.
  • Notify me every x mins
When working you may want to have a feedback of how much time has passed.
For this reason you can enable an audible notification that can be played each time a period has elapsed. Set this setting to zero to disable the notification.
The default setting is set to notify you every 5 minutes.
  • Warning when closing window
Choose whether or not to be warned if you try to close or reload the window when a timer is active
  • Leave behaviour
Choose what happens to active timer when you close the window.
  • Restore default settings
Press this button to reset all setting to default

Countdown timer

To use it as a countdown timer set the time you want to count down from and then press the play button.

You can adjust the seconds and minutes of the timer multiple ways:

  • By double clicking on the timer display and directly typing the number
  • By using the mouse wheel while hovering over the corresponding timer area(seconds or minutes).
  • By using the +/- buttons that appear when you hover over the corresponding timer portion or when you single tap on a touch screen

To adjust the time the timer should be stopped to prevent you from accidentally adjusting the timer when timing.

Both Productivity Timer and Simple Timer keep an archive of completed timing sessions.

When you use the tools being unregistered only the last five sessions will be kept for a period of one month.

If you register for free the last 100 sessions will be kept for a period of one year.

If you choose to subscribe on one of our paid memberships all timers will be kept for ever. Plus you can export your timer data and have detailed reports of all your timing records.
